KKR had two stars on Friday. In the first half, Umesh Yadav smashed his best bowling figures to wreak havoc bagging four wickets for just 23 runs with wickets of Mayank Agarwal, Liam Livingstone, Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar.

Sent to bat, Punjab Kings were off to the worst possible start, losing captain Mayank Agarwal in the first over as Umesh Yadav drew first blood. While Bhanuka Rajapaksa took Shivam Mavi to the cleaners with three consecutive sixes, Mavi fought back to remove him. PBKS’ batting continued to tumble as they lost wickets in regular intervals to be bowled out for 137. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy were exceptional while Shivam Mavi continued to be KKR’s weakest link, conceding at 19.50 economy.
The chase was straightforward. KKR had the muscle to win the match as chasing teams had won 86% of the matches in the tournament before this match. But Punjab were not going to go away without a fight.

After Kagiso Rabada removed Ajinkya Rahane and Odean Smith Venkatesh Iyer, Rahul Chahar turned the tide with a twin strike in the 7th over, scalping Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana. But then, Russell came to the crease.
Andre Russell didn’t have the greatest of outings of late with fitness being a big concern. However, he had no problem taking on fellow West Indian Odean Smith. The 12th over turned out to be where Russell-Mania changed the game for KKR.

Combining with Sam Billings, the duo smashed Odean Smith for 30 runs to write off Punjab Kings’ chance. In the end, Andre Russell brought up his 50 off just 26 balls, finishing with 70 off only 31 balls while Sam Billings remained unbeaten on 24 off 23 as Kolkata Knight Riders thrashed Punjab Kings by 6 wickets to go top of the table with four points from three games.
