Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings paid tribute to the Indian armed forces at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday. Ahead of the start of play in the KKR vs CSK clash, both teams lined up for the national anthem. The gesture comes after the Indian government’s Operation Sindoor against terror forces.
CSK, KKR honour armed forces
Both franchises took a moment before the start of the game to honour the Indian armed forces. The teams line up in front of the crowd, with the national anthem playing. The crowd chanted along, showcasing their support for the country’s army. Following the gesture. KKR owner Juhi Chawla and mentor Dwayne Bravo rang the bell as the umpires walked onto the ground. A hoarding with the text ‘proud of the Indian armed forces’ was also on display during the play.
Operation Sindoor has made it effect on the IPL 2025 schedule. With the Dharamsala airport closed down until May 10, the PBKS vs MI clash will be moved to a different location. It is likely to be shifted to Mumbai, with DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne both in line to host the clash. The PBKS vs DC game on May 8th, however, is reported to go as planned.
It is important to note that Dharamsala is only 60 km away from the India-Pakistan border. It may not be the best idea to play the match, with the stadium lights on, especially after the solid response by the Indian forces.
KKR seek playoff spot
At the toss, Ajinkya Rahane opted to bat first with just one change to the XI. Venkatesh Iyer missed out due to injury with Manish Pandey replacing him. CSK made quite a few changes, with Urvil Patel being handed his debut. The MS Dhoni led side are already out of IPL 2025 playoffs contention.
KKR need to win all 3 of their remaining games to be in contention for the IPL 2025 playoffs. Chennai meanwhile have already been knocked out.
