Karun Nair’s hopes of continuing his dream IPL comeback came crashing down in a bizarre moment in the DC vs RR clash on Wednesday. Having scored a blistering 89 in his first IPL 2025 game, the now Vidarbha star was dismissed for a duck in a shambolic run out against his former side Rajasthan Royals.
Karun Nair’s second wind ends early
Karun Nair took the IPL by storm in his comeback IPL game at the weekend. The Delhi Capitals hoped that the former Karnataka man could once again play the rescue act after Jake Fraser-McGurk’s wicket. However, the 33-year-old was dismissed for a 3-ball duck, coming crashing down from his highs of the previous game.
In the third over, Karun faced three straight dots from Jofra Archer. In the next over, a massive communication error between Abhishek Porel and Nair saw the latter dismissed. Porel got an inside edge and called for a run, with the 33-year-old obliging. However, the DC youngster sent him back, leaving him stranded with Sandeep Sharma completing the formalities. Sandeep took a bit of time to get the hit on the stumps, catching the DC star just short of the crease.
Karun Nair made his first appearance in the IPL in three years in Delhi Capitals’ last game against Mumbai Indians. He smashed a stunning 89, taking on the likes of Jasprit Bumrah with ease and venom. Nair would have hoped to face Archer and dominate, but his innings was cut short.
The 33-year-old is hoping to make a comeback to the Indian set up and such missed chances could prove detrimental for the Vidarbha star. While Nair got off to a perfect start to his IPL 2025 season, he will need to continue his run-scoring touch to be in contention for the England tour.
