Mohammad Kaif took a cheeky dig at Wright’s car
Kaif spoke fondly of Wright as they recalled their glory days. He also pulled up Wright’s leg stating that he needs to change his 20-year-old car. “Look who we met in New Zealand. Warm, wise and humble Mr John Wright. We recalled old days, shared life updates and pulled his leg. Coach time to sell your 20-year-old car now,” Kaif wrote on Twitter.
Wright was India’s first foreign coach
To note, Wright was the first foreign coach appointed by the BCCI and the move turned out to be a masterpiece. Under Wright’s management, India defeated mighty Australia 2-1 at home in 2001 and went on to win many games overseas. Besides winning Tests in England and Australia, the Men in Blue also reached the final of the 2003 World Cup in South Africa.
Under the management of Wright and the leadership of Sourav Ganguly, youngsters like Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif and Zaheer Khan got a lot of backing as they played significant roles in many India victories. Even Ganguly termed John Wright as the best coach he worked with.
