Stampede-like situation during Jharkhand T20 League final
As per Ranchi SSP, four to five people were injured in the stampede like situation at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi during the Jharkhand T20 League final. A Times of India report quoted an eyewitness claiming that there was no administration and that people were jumping over the walls to enter the stadium. Another eyewitness claimed that the issue arose because the gate was closed for a long time and that the situation could have been averted had the public been allowed inside earlier.
“Hospitals have also been alerted for the better treatment of the injured. Health Department is fully engaged in relief and treatment efforts with utmost readiness. There is no need to panic; arrangements are being ensured for the proper treatment of all the injured,” Jharkhand health minister Irfan Ansari informed following the incident.
Last year, 11 people were killed and several were injured in a stampede that took place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru following RCB’s maiden IPL title win. Following the incident, no cricket match was allowed to take place at the venue for over 9 months. The stadium was allowed to host matches in IPL 2026 only after making the changes recommended by the Justice Cunha Commission that probed the incident. Luckily, Ranchi did not witness a similar mishap during the Jharkhand T20 League final.
Talking about the final clash between Jamshedpur Steelers and Chota Nagpur Royals, the latter clinched a 7-wicket win with 16 balls remaining to win the maiden edition of the tournament. The Royals chased down the 181-run target with ease, with Kumar Kushagra leading from the front with an unbeaten 78-run knock off 39 balls.
