Jasprit Bumrah Injury Update: Even Rohit Sharma has “no clarity” over ICC Champions Trophy participation

Bumrah had injured his back in Sydney last month and has been on the sidelines since.

Things are amping up as the ICC Champions Trophy is getting closer and closer. The favourites to win the tournament, the India cricket team, are currently preparing for the event by playing an 3-match ODI series against England. Team India may have been labelled as the outright favourites, but that was before Jasprit Bumrah had suffered a back injury.

The Men in Blue remain as one of the title contenders but don’t have the backing they had before. Ricky Ponting, a two-time ICC Champions Trophy winner, thinks that if Bumrah isn’t fit for the tournament, Team India’s chance of victory will go down by 30-35%.

Even Rohit Sharma unsure about Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness

There isn’t any solid injury update. Bumrah has been under rehabilitation under the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) keen eye at the National Cricket Academy. In fact, even Team India captain Rohit Sharma isn’t sure about Bumrah’s status.

“Obviously, we are waiting on some update about his (Bumrah’s) scan and stuff, which is due to happen in the next few days. Once we get that scan, we will be able to give you more clarity on where he is,” Rohit Sharma told reporters in Nagpur.

Initially, it was reported that Bumrah was advised bed rest, but the pacer refuted such claims. Another report came out soon; this one said that he might miss the group stage matches of the ICC Champions Trophy. The second report might just be true. Since then, the BCCI has provided just one update. Bumrah, who was supposed to play the India vs. England 3rd ODI, has been removed from the squad, with Varun Chakaravarthy coming in his place.

The wait for another Jasprit Bumrah injury update continues. But it may be pleasing for some fans to know that they aren’t kept in the dark, because the Indian captain doesn’t know the fitness status of the pacer either.
