Jasprit Bumrah included in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad, won’t play IND vs ENG ODIs

Jasprit Bumrah has been included in India's Champions Trophy 2025 squad, skipper Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed on Saturday

Premium pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been included in India’s squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025. India cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed that the pacer will be a part of the side for the marquee tournament. Earlier, there were doubts over his availability for CT 2025 after he developed a swelling on his back following a gruelling Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

Bumrah named in India’s Champions Trophy squad

Bumrah’s availability for Champions Trophy is also subject to his fitness. Earlier, reports stated that while the BCCI has given the pacer 5 weeks of rest, his fitness would be tested in IND vs ENG 3rd ODI, the last stop before CT 2025. While the pacer has brushed aside reports of “bed rest”, it remains to be seen how quickly he will recover in order to join the side for the marquee event in Dubai.

Bumrah will not be a part of IND vs ENG ODI series either. Instead, Harshit Rana will be playing in the series just before CT 2025. When asked about Bumrah’s fitness, Agarkar said that the BCCI medical team would provide an official update soon, while adding that the pacer has been asked to “take things lightly” for the next five weeks.

Latest news

Bumrah was India’s most overworked pacer in the previous calendar year and especially in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The veteran pacer bowled 151.2 overs in the IND vs AUS Test series in Down Under, emerging as the highest wicket-taker for India in the tournament.

Apart from Bumrah, India’s pace battery comprises of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh. Shami makes his return to the ODI side after 14 months, having last played the 50-over format in 2023 World Cup.
