“Jaiswal isn’t focusing”: Ex-Pakistan star fears Goa’s new recruit might suffer same fate as Shaw

Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has managed to score just 107 runs from 5 matches in IPL 2025, sparking concerns

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali fears that Yashasvi Jaiswal might be following the footsteps of Prithvi Shaw. The Rajasthan Royals opener has managed to score just 107 runs from 5 matches in IPL 2025, sparking concerns. Ali implored Jaiswal to bing back passion to the game, citing the case of Shaw – who has been snubbed not only from the IPL but also from his domestic side as well.

Jaiswal en route to becoming another Prithvi Shaw?

In a video on his YouTube channel, Basit hinted that Jaiswal’s move to Goa from Mumbai could be the reason behind his poor run. The batter had taken everyone by surprise by announcing his move to move to a new team in the domestic circuit amid IPL 2025. Like Wasim Jaffer, Ali also feels that this move could have a potential impact on the southpaw’s form.

His stomach is filled. Jaiswal isn’t focusing on cricket. This is my open message: Cricket can make you cry a lot. Look at Prithvi Shaw. Love cricket and bring passion,” Ali said.

So far in IPL 2025, Jaiswal has only managed to score 1 fifty in 5 innings. He has registered scores of 1, 29, 4, 67 and 6. While openers like Sai Sudharsan and Arya have tasted success at the top of the order, Yashasvi seems to be lagging behind in terms of competition.

Prithvi was DC’s go-to opener until 2024. However a poor season in the previous edition coupled with controversies on and off the field forced him to be snubbed from IPL 2025. He now stands deserted, without any team opting for his services.

Jaiswal has looked rather out of form ever since the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His controversial move to Goa amid IPL 2025 could might as well be impacting his performance.
