It’s official! BCCI confirms India vs Bangladesh series postponement

India will now tour Bangladesh in September 2026 for a three-match ODI and T20I series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the India vs Bangladesh white-ball series set for August this year has been postponed. The series will now take place in September 2026. With diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, the series was in crisis. Now, the official verdict has come.

“This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams. The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Why was IND vs BAN series postponed?

Till the last week of July, the BCCI and the BCB were in discussion regarding the fate of the series. While the BCCI was waiting for a nod from the Indian government, the situation changed in the last week. The Indian board decided not to send the team to Bangladesh following the Indian government’s advice against the tour.

The BCB halted the sale of its media rights, including the highly anticipated IND vs BAN series. As per a Cricbuzz report, the last date of technical bid submission was on July 7.

“They have informed us that there is no India series. After announcing the tender, they did not provide the ITT. They are selling, for now, only for the Pakistan series,” an Indian broadcaster told Cricbuzz.

Since a politically-charged student movement overthrew Shaikh Haseena’s government in 2024, diplomatic ties between India and Bangladesh have been at their worst. Bangladeshi political leaders have made anti-Indian statements since then. In such a situation, the fate of the IND vs BAN series looked bleak.

Longer break for Rohit-Kohli

With the India vs Bangladesh series postponed, India cricket fans will have to wait longer for the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to ODI cricket. With both stars retiring from T20I and Test cricket, ODIs are the only opportunity for fans to watch them play.

As there is no official series in August, India Cricket Team’s next ODI assignment will be in October-November in Australia. India will then take on South Africa at home in November. Following the England tour, Team India will play in Asia Cup in September.
