Ponting takes charge of PBKS, owners to take back seat

Speaking on a podcast The Howie Games, Pointing revealed he had some great conversation at auction table earlier in November 2024. He claimed that while there were four major owners for PBKS, it was his team now and they had to accept it. He acknowledged that all the owners were passionate and were pushing for success harder since they hadn’t lifted the IPL trophy since the league’s inception. He further said that he doesn’t mind being asked questions by the owners but has an issue when it is addressed directly to the players.

It’s my team now. Owners are very passionate and they want success but the communication directly to the players will be through me and not them . They can ask me questions that’s okay,” Ponting said.

Ponting and his art of coaching

PBKS need some stability and that is for sure what Ponting will bring to the table. Many might not know but the Australian legend was there with the Mumbai Indians (MI) when they won in 2013 and in 2015. In 2013, he was there as a player but was moved to the support staff when his batting form went down in the dumps. However, in 2015, Ponting won his first IPL title as a head coach, building a superb team filled with local talent.

Interestingly, this philosophy also worked in his next IPL franchise in the form of Delhi Capitals (DC). He joined the team in 2018 and instantly settled the side with power-packed individuals.
