It is official! Rahul Dravid returns to Rajasthan Royals as head coach

Apart from Rahul Dravid, Rajasthan Royals are also likely to rope in Vikram Rathour as one of the coaching staff.

After days of anticipation, the impending announcement has been made. Rahul Dravid, who coached Team India to a historic T20 World Cup 2022, has returned to his IPL home. Rajasthan Royals, where he mentored in the 2014-2015 season, is now officially RR’s head coach.

Rahul Dravid rejoins RR ahead of IPL 2025

The former RR captain, who mustered 1,276 runs for the franchise, has been one of the pillars for Rajasthan Royals. He has a long-standing relationship as Dravid captained the team for two seasons in 2012 and 2013 before mentoring two more editions. While Dravid then moved to the Delhi Capitals (formerly known as Delhi Daredevils) in a mentorship role, he has always had a great camaraderie with the RR franchise, jointly owned by Manoj Badale and The Royals Sports Group. While the story broke out a couple of days ago, the confirmation has come now.

Now at the Royals, Dravid will reunite with Sanju Samson, who has been Rajasthan’s skipper since 2021. In 2022, RR came close to winning the championship but lost the finals against Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans (GT).

New Era for Rajasthan Royals

A new era now beckons for Rajasthan Royals as the franchise will be head by two veterans, Rahul Dravid and Kumar Sangakkara. Sangakkara joined the Royals in 2021 in the role of Director of Cricket. Sangakkara has built a great rapport with the players, especially local talents. Dravid will now work in tandem. Moreover, the duo are known to have a calm demeanor, always building great harmony with players.
