Islamabad United were bolstered with the return of skipper Shadab Khan, who missed last three games due to an injury and Alex Hales. Earlier, Wahab Riaz-led Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and opted to bat first. Kamran Akmal got the team off to a good start. He was soon joined by Shoaib Malik as both the batsmen scored brilliant half-centuries to help Peshawar Zalmi score 169.
