Countless big hitters have dazzled the Indian Premier League (IPL) in its 18 years of existence. While the likes of Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, and Adam Gilchrist were the early pioneers, fans are now accustomed to seeing some entertaining bashing of bowlers via the blades of Andre Russell, Nicholas Pooran, and so on. Travis Head is one of the most dangerous batters going, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) dasher completed his 1000 runs in IPL in the clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday, April 17.
Travis Head breaks Klaasen & Sehwag’s record
Travis Head came up with a rare, painstaking innings of 28 off 29 against MI. However, he orchestrated a record of sorts in that innings that saw him hit no sixes. When the mighty Australian took his 17th run, Head completed his 1000th run in his IPL career. Fascinatingly, he has become the second-fastest ever to achieve the feat, in terms of balls taken. Head hit his 1000th run off his 575th ball, 21 balls less than what his teammate Heinrich Klaasen took, who’s at third on the list.
Interestingly, Andre Russell tops the chart, who took just 545 balls. However, what is fascinating to note is that 4 of the top 6 players on the list are finishers or middle-order batters, who usually tend to go big irrespective of the situation. Head, however, has been a trend-setter, taking little to no balls to get under the skin of the opposition bowlers.
