Irani Cup 2023: IND vs AUS 3rd Test: – In what has come as a shocker in scheduling, BCCI has announced Indore’s Holker Stadium as the venue for IND vs AUS 3rd Test as well as the Irani Cup 2023 match, both starting on March 1. Indore became a last-minute option after the 3rd Test was shifted from unfit Dharamshala stadium. But there is no end to the saga now. After announcing Indore as the venue for Border Gavaskar Trophy, it will now have to find an alternative for Madhya Pradesh vs Rest of India Irani Cup. “The match will be moved out of Indore, inevitably,” said Jay Shah on Monday to Cricbuzz.

As per Cricbuzz, the Irani Cup game between Madhya Pradesh and the Rest of India is set to be moved out of Indore. The match was initially scheduled to be played between March 1 and 5 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Indore is the home ground of the 2022 Ranji Champions Madhya Pradesh.

However, BCCI has now decided to move the India vs Australia 3rd Test to the stadium. The move came after Dharamshala, the original Test venue, was deemed unfit. Indore which has hosted games in international and domestic cricket over the past year was named the new venue.

IND vs AUS 3rd Test: BCCI’s relocation drama

  • Dharamshala was set to host the India vs Australia 3rd Test
  • However, the match was moved out due to poor condition of the ground
  • BCCI shifted the game to Indore, starting on March 1
  • However, Indore was set to host MP vs Rest of India in the Irani Cup.
  • The dates of the Irani Cup and the IND vs Aus 3rd Test are the same.
  • Now, the Irani Cup tie will be relocated to a new venue.
  • MPCA are set to formally make a request for Gwalior.

The IND vs AUS 3rd Test will be played on the same dates as the Irani Cup Final. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the venue will be changed. As per MPCA, Gwalior has been suggested as an alternate home venue for the Ranji Trophy holders.

India will play the 2nd Test in Delhi Stadrying on February 17 before arriving in Indore. The final match of the India vs Australia series will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. BCCI had earlier confirmed the change in venue via an official statement.

“The third Test of the Mastercard Australia tour of India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, originally scheduled to take place at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala from 1st to 5th March has now been moved to Holkar Stadium, Indore. Owing to harsh winter conditions in the region, the outfield lacks sufficient grass density and will need some time to develop fully,” BCCI confirmed in an official statement on Monday.

As for the Irani Cup game, it is the second edition of the tournament this season. Earlier, 2020 champions Saurashtra played the Rest of India in a postponed game. Now MP, who were champions last year will face Rest of India. The squad for the latter will be named in due course.
