IPL Retentions: Shreyas Iyer not keen to stay with KKR after “rival team” offer – Report

IPL Retentions: Shreyas Iyer managed to end KKR's trophy drought, and helped them lift the trophy after 10 years.

Slowly, but surely, it is getting more apparent by the day the KKR’s IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer will enter the IPL auction. While the move is not final, but he certainly is on his move out, and as per senior journalists, and their sources, Iyer has received a massive offer from one of the rival franchises.

While one can never confirm of these developments, but there is no smoke without fire. In the 14 matches last year, Shreyas Iyer was excellent and scored 351 runs at an average of 39, and a strike rate of 146. Tactically too, he was just the best in IPL 2024. So, after Gautam Gambhir, and Abhishek Nayar, this could be the biggest blow to KKR.

Even though all might not be well with Iyer, when it comes to the Indian team, and the Mumbai Ranji team, he is widely trusted in the IPL circles, to deliver. He had led Delhi Capitals in the past as well, and who knows, the fans might just see him come back. If one talks about his captaincy record in the IPL, across all teams, he has led in 70 matches, and won 38 of them, while losing 29. In fact, he has a brilliant win % of 56, which is one of the highest in the list of IPL captains.

Andre Russell Not to be Retained by KKR

Another report in RevSportz suggested, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned team isn’t keen on retaining Andre Russell as well. Despite being a solid performer for 10 years now, the 36-year-old isn’t being considered by the franchise. And the biggest gainers could be Venkatesh Iyer and Harshit Rana. For now, even the likes of Rinku Singh and Sunil Narine look like sure-shot IPL retentions.
