IPL Auction Scenario: DC interested in Shreyas Iyer as skipper, confirms official

IPL Auction: With 73 Cr left in the purse, for DC, they would be looking to bag Shreyas Iyer, and make him the captain.

A couple of days back, when Shreyas Iyer was not kept by KKR in IPL Retention, it did not come as a big surprise. Long before the decision was made, many reports suggested that the two parties could not agree upon the price, and hence Iyer would enter the IPL auction. Now, that move has left DC drooling.

DC Eye Shreyas Iyer in IPL Auction

The Delhi franchise has let go their skipper Rishabh Pant, and are in search of a new one, and who better than their ex-captain Shreyas Iyer. A fresh report has indeed confirmed, that DC is interested in making him the captain. After all, he had taken them to a final spot in IPL 2020, and is a winner of IPL 2024.

Not just that, DC have a huge purse of INR 73 Cr left for the IPL Auction, that is supposed to take place in the third week of December. “There won’t be too many teams that would want Iyer the T20 batter but just to ensure DC spends a bomb on a player, they might engage in a bidding war for Iyer,” an IPL franchise official told PTI.

The report also went on to state that KL Rahul is on RCB’s radar, and could even be made the captain of the franchise. Not just that, Arshdeep Singh could be retained via RTM by PBKS, who have only retained 2 players so far, and have a purse of 110 Cr left with them. Not just that, even Ishan Kishan is on LSG’s radar, who are looking for a replacement for KL Rahul.

Meanwhile DC has retained only four players during IPL retention — Axar Patel – (Rs. 16.5 crore), Kuldeep Yadav – (Rs. 13.25 crore), Tristan Stubbs – (Rs. 10 crore), Abishek Porel – (Rs. 4 crore).
