Virat Kohli’s struggles at the MA Chidambaram Stadium continue. Before facing the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Kohli had struck at just 111.01 at the venue. Well, guess what? His record has worsened.
IPL stats: Virat Kohli at Chepauk Stadium
Innings | Runs | Average | Strike Rate | 50s |
---|---|---|---|---|
14 | 414 | 29.57 | 110.40 | 2 |
On the spin-friendly Chepauk surface, Kohli struggled against all CSK bowlers barring Matheesha Pathirana. Against the slingy pacer, the star RCB batter scored 15 runs in 9 balls. Against all of the others, he managed to score just 16 runs from 22 balls.
His struggles started in the first over of the match and continued until the 13th over when Noor Ahmad finally got him. It was an excruciating knock to watch. Scoring just 31 (30) when the team scored 196 runs doesn’t look good.
For those who knew Kohli’s record at Chepauk Stadium, this wasn’t a shock. Also, everyone knows that as his career has progressed, Kohli has found it tough to hit spinners. He also often gets stuck in the middle overs in the IPL.
This happened in the last match as well. Although Kohli ended with a 159 strike rate, one mustn’t forget that against Kolkata Knight Riders he was at 29 (13) after the powerplay. And he finished unbeaten at 59 (36), scoring just 30 runs in the next 23 balls.
Kohli also got an unwanted record to his name. He now has the worst strike rate for any batter at an IPL venue.
