The retention rules have been released for Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) and rumours have started to circulate over the transfer of players. India Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma is one such example. The former Mumbai Indians captain is now set to end his stay with MI and join Lucknow Super Giants for IPL 2025 as per reports.

Rohit Sharma has been the captain of Mumbai Indians for a long time, till last season. Hardik Pandya switched back to MI from Gujarat Titans after a 2 year stay and was made the captain of the side amidst to the dislike of the fans. And with the IPL 2025 Mega Auction coming up, reports claim Rohit Sharma is on his way out.

Rohit was sold to MI back in the 2011 Auction from Deccan Chargers. And under Hitman’s captaincy, the Mumbai outfits have gone on to lift the IPL title for 5 times with the latest coming in 2020.

Reports from Sports Yaari claim that Rohit Sharma is most likely to join the Lucknow outfits which can help the team save 1 spot in retention. On the other hand, this means that Hardik Pandya will continue to remain as the captain of the Mumbai side.

Should the move happen, it will be interesting to see how and in what capacity Rohit Sharma contributes to Lucknow Super Giants. After winning the ICC T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma called his time in the shortest format of the game. The Hitman continues to captain India in ODIs and Test cricket.
