IPL 2025, Qualifier 2: Yuzvendra Chahal returns for PBKS, Richard Gleeson out for MI with injury

Yuzvendra Chahal is fit again and returns to the XI for Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad.

With a place in the IPL 2025 Final up for grabs, Punjab Kings have welcomed back Yuzvendra Chahal into their playing XI. IPL’s leading wicket taker had missed the past few games due to injury, but has recovered in time for the PBKS vs MI clash. Hardik Pandya also made a forced change, with Richard Gleesom’s injury paving way for Reece Topley.

Yuzvendra Chahal boost for Punjab Kings, Topley makes MI debut

Yuzvendra Chahal was out of action for the last 3 games due to a wrist injury. Punjab Kings have often turned to Harpreet Brar or Praveen Dubey in his absence. However, the 34-year-old is passed fit for the knockout clash against the Mumbai Indians. Chahal trained extensively before the game. He wore protective equipment on his wrist. Reports suggested that, given the magnitude of the game, the spinner was ready to take injections to manage the pain and play through.

It hasn’t been the best of seasons for Yuzvendra Chahal in IPL 2025. He has 14 wickets in 12 games, conceding at 9.56 an over. However, despite that the veteran is a certain game changer, having already accounted for a hat-trick in this season.

While Chahal returns, Deepak Chahar is still unavailable due to injury. Mumbai Indians filled that void with Richard Gleeson in their last game. The Englishman put in a good show with the ball in hand in Mullanpur. He picked up the wicket of Sai Sudharsan at a crucial juncture. However, Gleeson pulled his hamstring in the final over and was thus ruled out. Reece Topley now gets his chance and makes his MI debut in Ahmedabad. The tall left-armer has not featured in IPL 2025 so far, and MI would hope he can get going from the start.
