Mitchell Marsh is giving Nicholas Pooran a great fight to be named as the best player for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The latter has scored 75, 70 and 44 so far. And will come out to bat against the Mumbai Indians (MI) soon enough. But the former isn’t bad. His scores are 72, 52, 0, and 60.
Mitchell Marsh goes berserk against the Mumbai Indians
They have been truly exceptional, but Marsh might be sneaking ahead of Pooran. In the tournament where the powerplay might be what makes you win or lose, Marsh has been way too good. Against MI at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, the Australian opener scored all sixty of his runs in the first six overs.
The silent edge
His 60-run knock consisted of 9 fours and 2 sixes. That’s 48 runs from boundaries alone. He thrashed every MI bowler. But MI may have to blame themselves for that. You see, Marsh could have departed for just 6 (4). In the first over of the LSG vs MI match, the batter edged one behind.
But neither the bowler, Trent Boult, nor the wicketkeeper, Ryan Rickelton, heard anything. Both of them saw the big screen in the next over to realise what a grave error they had made. From there, Marsh didn’t stop. He faced 30 balls in the powerplay and scored nearly 90% of the runs.
Until the 7th over, when Vignesh Puthur dismissed him, MI mourned about the chance they missed. Had they heard that edge, the start of the match could have been entirely different. But when Marsh departed, the stage was set. LSG had gotten the start they wanted. Pooran, Rishabh Pant, Ayush Badoni, and David Miller had received a platform from where they could build and explode further.
