IPL 2024: Lucknow Super Giants injury concerns and other worries

After their previous two good outings in IPL, Lucknow Super Giants will be looking to clinch the prestigious title in the upcoming edition.

In IPL, Lucknow Super Giants have maintained a decent record till now. After making their debut in 2022, LSG have reached the knockout stages on both the occasions so far. In IPL 2024, LSG will in their opening match against the Rajasthan Royals on March 24. Ahead of their opening match, let us take a look at Lucknow Super Giants injury concerns and other issues.

Lucknow Super Giants injury concerns

KL Rahul: Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul is not part of the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series. KL Rahul has been in the rehabilitation phase at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. KL Rahul featured in just the opening game of the five-match series against England.

Subsequently, he experienced discomfort in his right quadriceps before the second match, leading to his absence for the remainder of the series. Seeking expert advice, he travelled to London for consultations. However he is expected to get fit on time before the IPL.

Other concerns

Mark Wood absence: Lucknow’s ace pacer Mark Wood decided not to take part in the upcoming IPL edition due to the workload management. In 2024 IPL, Lucknow Super Giants are expected to miss his services. LSG have signed in Shamar Joseph as Wood’s replacement.

Lack in bowling options: Despite fetching pacers like Mavi and Willey in the auction, LSG’s pace attack lacks quality. Except for Mark Wood, no other speedster guarantees exceptional numbers with the ball consistently. Mavi played his last IPL season back in 2022 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and in that too, he struggled to be among the wickets. The likes of Naveen ul Haq, Mohsin Khan and Yash Thakur will have to step up and deliver effective bowling performances for their side.
