IPL 2024: Big blow to Punjab Kings! Sikandar Raza leaves for Zimbabwe duty

Punjab Kings will visit Chennai Super KIngs in their next IPL 2024 game at the Chepauk Stadium on May 1st

Punjab Kings all-rounder Sikandar Raza bid goodbye to the franchise ahead of their game against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024. Raza has been named in the Zimbabwe squad against Bangladesh and is set to lead the side. The five-match T20I series is scheduled to be played from May 3 to 12.

Sikandar Raza took to Twitter to announce his departure from the team. “Thank you India, @IPL and @PunjabKingsIPL for having me, loved every minute of it. Time for national duty now,” wrote Sikandar Raza on his social media profile..

Sikandar Raza, one of the world’s top limited-overs all-rounders, struggled to make an impression in the IPL 2024. He did not have many opportunities to show off his talent, since he just played two games and scored 43 runs. He played seven games in the previous IPL season and scored 139 runs, including one half-century. Sikandar Raza had also taken three wickets.

Punjab Kings with a stellar victory over KKR

PBKS ended their four-match losing run in style, chasing down a record 262 against KKR at Eden Gardens. When asked to bat first, KKR scored more than 250 runs for the second time this season. However, the visitors replied brilliantly with the bat, chasing down the enormous score in only 18.4 overs while losing only two wickets. Jonny Bairstow shined with the bat, making an unbeaten century, while Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh also scored blazing 50s.

How can PBKS qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs?

Despite their spectacular win on Friday, the Punjab Kings remain in eighth place in the points table. After nine matches in the IPL 2024, they have six points and a net run rate of -0.187.

PBKS will need to win all five of their remaining matches. Yet, if numerous teams end with 16 points, they may not be secure, as the net run rate might be the deciding factor.
