IPL 2024 Auction: RCB fans can select a better team, feels former India cricketer

Former India player Dodda Ganesh believes that the RCB management made elementary mistakes while bidding during IPL 2024 Auction.

At the IPL 2024 Auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore spent over INR 20 Cr, to bag six players. They added Alzarri Joseph (INR 11.5 crore), Yash Dayal (INR 5 crore), Lockie Ferguson (INR 2 crore), Tom Curran (INR 1.5 crore), Swapnil Singh (INR 20 lakh), and Saurav Chauhan (INR 20 lakh), to their roster. But it must be said, there are still a few grey areas for the team.

The team hasn’t managed to get a replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga, who was their go-to bowler, in the death overs. Plus, apart from Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, and Dinesh Karthik, there aren’t many experienced Indian faces. And all the foreign stars with experience, won’t be able to play at a time, but only four.

So when RCB had Reece Topley, Cameron Green, Siraj, and Akash Deep in their lineup, what was the need to get Alzarri, Lockie, and Tom Curran together? While the RCB think tank might have a logical explanation for this, former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh doesn’t.

He expressed his ire on X, and lashed out at the decision-makers at RCB. In one of the tweets he wrote, “Give the RCB fans half the money from the purse and a freehand at the auction table; I bet you, our fans will select a much balanced team for all conditions and might as well save some money. Cannot believe that a pro crkt team can do such elementary mistakes #IPL2024.”

He also went on to question the rationale to get Yash Dayal for INR 5 cr.
