IPL 2024 Auction: CSK won’t be ‘desperate’ for Rachin Ravindra, feels India legend

At the IPL 2024 Auction, CSK might look to strengthen their middle-order after Ambati Rayudu's retirment.

While there are a lot of experts who believe that New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra will go to the Chennai Super Kings at IPL 2024 Auction, former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar has a different opinion. The latter feels that CSK would bid for Rachin, but won’t be desperate to get him.

The Kiwi had an excellent World Cup 2023, and scored a century on tournament debut against England — unbeaten 123, in a winning cause. He ended the tournament with 578, including two more tons against Australia and Pakistan, and also set the record for most runs in a World Cup by a debutant.

Now at the IPL Auction 2024, he has set his base price at INR 50 lakh. And given his all-round abilities, he might just spark a bidding war. Gavaskar, during a discussion on Star Sports, said CSK have Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santner in similar roles.

“I don’t think they will go for him because they have options. As you said, they have Moeen Ali who can play at No. 3. They also have Mitchell Santner as a bowler. They will come in the bidding but they won’t be desperate for Rachin Ravindra.”
