The Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) group stage has ended. And now it is now time for the playoffs. But, interestingly, IPL 2024 can be dissected into a league of two entirely different halves. Both halves saw two different teams raking up 6 wins. Interestingly, the results were completely changed based on home and away fixtures, along with teams winning more based on chasing or defending.
IPL 2024 has been nothing short of a miracle. At least the stats show that. It has to be Royal Challengers Bengaluru who turned things around to secure a place in the last 4 from the jaws of being eliminated.
RR & RCB – A Class Apart!
If Rajasthan Royals started the tournament with a bang, it was RCB who ended it with blitz. And Kolkata Knight Riders, they were the most consistent team in the entirety of the IPL 2024 group stage games. Sanju Samson and Co helped RR to rake up 6 wins out of the first 7 games as they continued to top the Points Table charts.
Come the second half, RR managed just 2 wins in their last 7 games. On the other hand, powered by some brilliance from Virat Kohli, RCB managed to 6 wins in 7 games to secure the 4th place. Interestingly, RR finished 3rd overall, losing out to KKR and SRH for the top 3 spots.
Home and Away!
Home plays a distinct advantage in any tournament. And it was Sunrisers Hyderabad who took a huge advantage of the same. SRH picked up 5 wins at home. SRH was closely followed by CSK, KKR and DC all with 5 wins. But Pat Cummins and Co tops the charts with a highly impressive overall NRR.
But it was KKR who dominated in the away fixtures. Shreyas Iyer and Co bagged 4 wins in 7 away fixtures, followed by RR and PBKS. But then again KKR completely dominated the charts with their supreme NRR.
Chasing or Defending!
The toss too plays a crucial role in the game. And thus whether to defend or chase, plays a key role in presenting the outcome of the game. In terms of defending, SRH was a beast. The Hyderabadi outfits bagged 5 wins from 7 games, followed by DC with equal wins.
On the other hand, in terms of chasing, it was Kolkata Knight Riders who was miles ahead of the opposition. KKR managed a 100% win record while chasing. The Knights won 3 out of their 3 games while chasing to top the IPL 2024 Points Table.
