Kumble’s contract was not renewed by the franchise with the former India coach not able to yield positive results for the franchise. The franchise had already started looking at different options. Under Kumble, Punjab did not make it to the Playoffs for three consecutive seasons in the IPL. And it did not please the Punjab hierarchy as well.

And Bayliss can possible be one of the best candidates with good experience to help the team achieve success in the IPL. He is one of the experienced coaches going around in world cricket too.
Bayliss was the head coach when England won the 2019 World Cup. He brings in that mentality into the Punjab dressing room after having seen his teams win the IPL and BBL titles as well.
With such a coach at the helm of affairs for Punjab, they would be looking to win their first IPL title as well. So far, they have just reached the finals once.
In fact, this appointment comes just an hour after Mumbai Indians announced Mark Boucher as the head coach of their franchise. He replaces Mahela Jayawardena, who was recently given a wider global role by Mumbai Indians.
