IPL 2023: Royal Challengers Bangalore: IPL 2023 Auction – Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) kept their core group intact ahead of IPL 2023 mini-auction. RCB performed well last year and finished third. With a good season, RCB management didn’t tinker with the squad and have placed their bets on the group to deliver in IPL 2023 season. However, they have let go of some foreign players like Jason Behrendorff and Sherfane Rutherford, who could do much impact. RCB have two overseas slots left, and ahead of the mini-auction, they should target three players. Follow IPL 2023 Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.

IPL 2023: What RCB should target in IPL mini auction?

  • RCB lacked a genuine power hitter at the top, who can take on the opposition
  • RCB also did not have a genuine all-rounder, who could finish games and also pick regular wickets.
  • The Faf du Plessis-led would also like to target a death bowler, who could contain the flow of runs and pick wickets in the back end.
  • A left-hand bowler who could swing the ball both ways and be effective in middle overs
  • Middle order enforcer would also be one of their agendas, as apart from Maxwell, they did not have a basher in the middle overs.

Who will RCB target in the IPL 202 mini-auction?

1. Sam Curran

After Mitchell Starc, RCB have not had a genuine left-arm fast bowler or a good death bowler. Over the last few years, they have relied on Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj to do the job in death overs. The result has been a mixed bag. In Sam Curran, RCB can get a power play/death bowler and also a handy batter lower down the order. The English player is pretty good and is pretty economical conceding 7 runs per over in power play.

The left-arm pacer’s stock has also risen as he performed brilliantly in the T20 World Cup picking up 13 wickets in the tournament. Curran is a genuine wicket-taker and a gun bowler at death.

2. Mayank Agarwal

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis plays the anchor role to perfection. But it was his partner at the other end, who struggled to get going in IPL 2022 season. Virat Kohli and Anuj Rawat failed to score runs briskly, and that put added pressure on Du Plessis to score runs quickly. In the IPL mini-auction, RCB can try Mayank Agarwal, who is pretty quick in scoring runs, and also converts his starts to big scores.

PBKS have let go of Agarwal after he struggled to get going in IPL 2022. The Karnataka player though had a great Karnataka Premier League scoring over 300 runs. The former PBKS player also had a decent SMAT 2022 season, scoring runs at a strike rate of over 140. RCB can bank on an experienced player like Agarwal to get them going at the top.

3. Jason Holder

A genuine all-rounder who can impact games with bat and ball is what RCB are lacking for several years. While going for Ben Stokes and Cameron Green will be out of their budget as only 8.75 purse is remaining. RCB can target Jason Holder, who is good at both skill sets. The tall West Indian fast bowler is good at power play and death, conceding runs just below 8 runs per over. Holder is also pretty handy with the bat. The right-hand batter can be used as a floater too.

Holder has taken 49 wickets in 38 matches. In the last two years, the Caribbean player has also contributed well with the bat in hand, striking runs at 135 in death overs.
