IPL 2023: Khaleel Ahmed – Khaleel Ahmed had a roller-coaster journey during his growing-up years, before fulfilling his dream of becoming a cricketer. “I have three older sisters, and my father was a compounder in the Tonk district. So when daddy used to go to his job, I had to do things like going to buy groceries, milk, or vegetables. I used to go to play in between, which meant that household work would remain incomplete.”

IPL 2023: Khaleel Ahmed recalls the time when his father thrashed him with a belt

With three elder sisters, Khaleel had to take responsibility and help his father when he was away. Senior Ahmed was worried that his son would not be able to become a doctor if he only focused on playing.

“My mother would complain about it to my father, who would look at me and ask me where I was. I used to be on the ground. He used to be very angry because I didn’t study or do any work. He thrashed me with a belt too, which left marks on my body. My sisters would treat those wounds at night,” he told Aakash Chopra on Jio Cinema.

Khaleel’s father started to believe in his son’s potential only when he was selected for Under-14 for Rajasthan. The pacer picked up 21 wickets in four games, which gave belief to his father that he can make a career out of cricket. Speaking about Khaleel’s career he is currently out of the radar of the selectors. But a good IPL season for Delhi Capitals in 2023, might propel his case for selection for the national team.
