IPL 2023 Auction Deadline: With the IPL 2023 mini-auction set for December 23, the BCCI has set December 15 last day for players to register. While it won’t be a mega auction with some franchises facing budget constraints, the likes of Sam Curran, Ben Stokes and Cameron Green will be the centre of attractions. Apart from the English duo, former England Test captain Joe Root has also registered for the auction and is hoping to find a suitor. Follow IPL 2023 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

However, BCCI is currently deliberating franchises’ request to change the auction date. As December 23 is close to Christmas, franchises have requested the BCCI to advance the auction date. But a final decision on that is expected only by next week.

“December 15 is player registration deadline. We expect some top players to enrol. As for the auction date, December 23 is the set date for now. We are discussing some franchises’ requests to advance the date. But there are other factors involved. Only after deliberation with all stakeholders, we will come to a decision,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.

IPL Auction Date: Why did franchises request BCCI change to Auction Day?

As December 23 falls in the Christian holiday season, franchises fear that many of their foreign staff won’t be available. All franchises have foreign coaching staffs. As the auction day falls during holiday season, some of them will be on vacation. That is the reason franchises want the auction day to be advanced.

IPL Auction Registration Deadline:

For now, December 23 is the auction day in Kochi. Around 250 players will go under the hammer. Before that, players will have to register for the auction by December 15, 5 PM.

With the mega auction already over just a season ago, there won’t be many big names. However, franchises tend to splash more in the mini auctions. As Ben Stokes, Cameron Green and Sam Curran are the three big names in the auction pool, there could be a bidding war.

Seven out of ten teams have foreign head coaches in IPL: The main reason for franchises appealing to shift the auction is that seven out of ten teams have foreign head coaches. Without their head coaches, the franchises will have a hard time planning for the upcoming event. It must be noted that the teams have retained a total of 163 players, and up to 85 players were released from their respective rosters.

  • Mumbai Indians: Mark Boucher, Shane Bond, Kieron Pollard
  • Chennai Super Kings: Stephen Fleming
  • Delhi Capitals: Ricky Ponting
  • Punjab Kings: Trevor Bayliss
  • Lucknow Super Giants: Andy Flower
  • Gujarat Titans: Gary Kirsten
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad: Brian Lara, Dale Steyn

Earlier in February, the mega auctions were held over a span of two days. However, the mini-auction will be a one-day affair. Most teams have already put their core squads in place and would like to fine-tune ahead of the new edition of the IPL which will follow the old method of home and away games.

Remaining Purse:

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad: Rs 42.25 Cr
  • Punjab Kings: Rs 32.20 Cr
  • Lucknow Supergiants: Rs 23.35 Cr
  • Mumbai Indians: Rs 20.55 Cr
