Franchises UPSET with India Camp: Why the IPL franchises are upset? The franchises are primarily upset on two accounts.
  • 1) Franchises have committement towards their sponsors. With leading players in the camp lack of access to the players upsets franchises commercials plans.
  • 2) Franchises are also concerned about players protection against Covid-19

The franchises have now officially taken up the matter with IPL chairman Brijesh Patel.

As per the current conditions, the camp for the Indian hopefuls will continue till 15th March. The players will leave for their respective IPL team bases on 16th March. They will have to be in Quaratine for minimum 3 days before being allowed to join IPL BIO-BUBBLE.

The franchises believes, the top Indian players will now be available to them either on 19th or 20th March.

This scenario will not allow them to fulfil contractual obligations towards the team sponsors.

“It’s frustrating. From last two seasons IPL is happening outside India. Our sponsors have been making huge compromises and still standing by us. Now was the time to deliver some extra value to them. But with players in the camp – where is the time?”, asked a miffed franchise promoter.

Why a Indian camp is being conducted before IPL? The BCCI has asked all contracted and non-contracted players to attend a 10-day fitness camp at the NCA in Bengaluru. The camp has already started and will continue till 15th March.

The camp according to the Insiders is the idea of Rahul Dravid and other members of Indian team management. According to top BCCI officials, it is important to continue monitoring the fitness of their T20 World Cup hopefuls and this camp will help in that.

“There are about 25 of them. The NCA will assess their fitness levels ahead of the IPL. The purpose is to have a camp before they disperse for their respective IPL duties,” a BCCI official told Cricbuzz.

The Indian stars did report to the NCA on Saturday with Indian vice-captain KL Rahul attending alongside Suryakumar Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur.

The likes of Harshal Patel, Venkatesh Iyer, and KL Rahul all are in the camp.

The BCCI has exempted Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and others who are currently playing in the India vs Sri Lanka series from attending the camp.

They will join their respective IPL franchises after the Sri Lanka series ends on March 16 in Bengaluru.

The likes of KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Washington Sundar, Ruturaj Gaikwad are all injured and will have to prove their fitness before joining their respective IPL franchises after March 15.

That means, Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders will all be without their major players. CSK were supposed to begin pre-IPL camp on March 7 and will be Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Chahar for the camp.
