RCB are all set to usher into a new era with the franchise creating hype around their RCB unbox event. The event, which is held exactly 2 weeks before the IPL season kicks off will reveal the identity of Virat Kohli’s successor after he stepped down from captaincy in 2022.
In a special event, the franchise are all set to announce Kohli’s successor for the first time. RCB are the only team yet to announce their captain ahead of the new season and the suspense has prevailed so far. Former South African captain Faf du Plessis is the current favourite to take over, with the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell also in the mix.
Virat Kohli, who resigned from captaincy to lighten his workload last season, could very well make a surprise U-turn and take the mantle. The Indian star has been the leader of the side since 2013 and has resigned from all formats as India captain.
Faf du Plessis is set to bag the role, considering his vast experience in leadership combined with Glenn Maxwell’s unavailability during the first few games. The former South African skipper has vast experience of captaincy having led the team in all three formats including in the World Cup. At Chennai Super Kings, Du Plessis was a guaranteed starter and he will have his place sealed in RCB’s Playing XI as an opener, opening the door to take over the charge.
