Chennai Super Kings have had a horrible start to their IPL 2022 campaign under the new leadership of Ravindra Jadeja. They have lost all of their first four matches and are languishing at the bottom of the table.

For a team of their repute who have won the title four times, these results are certainly unacceptable for Chennai Super Kings, but Shastri has blamed the CSK management for not retaining Faf du Plessis and making Jadeja the captain. “I believe, a player like Jadeja should focus on his cricket. If Chennai think about it again, they should have not let Faf du Plessis go because he is a match winner and played a lot,” he told ESPNCricinfo.

While it has been reported that Dhoni was planning to quit captaincy from last season itself, the former Indian coach feels CSK should have retained Faf du Plessis for IPL 2022. He explained “If Dhoni didn’t want to captain the side, then Faf should have become the captain and Jadeja should have played as a player. Because he (Jadeja) can then play freely, no pressure of captaincy.” Notably, du Plessis is doing a commendable job as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Meanwhile, the pressure of captaincy has taken a toll on Jadeja’s individual performance as well. The all-rounder from Gujarat has scored only 66 runs in four matches and has picked up only a single wicket. Chennai Super Kings’ next assignment is against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday, April 12, and Jadeja will hope not only a produce a good performance himself but also guide his team to their maiden IPL 2022 victory.
