Mayank Agarwal joined then Kings XI Punjab in 2018 after Rising Pune Supergiants folded. The Karnataka-born batter has donned Punjab’s jersey since then and is all set to represent them in the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) as well after being retained for a massive salary hike.

Punjab have retained only two players ahead of the mega auction, Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh. Agarwal has got a hike of 1400% in his IPL salary and it looks like the Punjab-based franchise is looking to appoint Agarwal as their next captain.
The decision to appoint Mayank Agarwal as the captain of Punjab Kings will not be a surprising one as they don’t have any other option to go with. They have a big purse amount left with having spent only 18 crores but bringing in a new captain would make no sense. Plus, the Karnataka batter has captained PBKS in the absence of KL Rahul.
