“Just went with the combination that would be ideal. We chose the best from whatever we had.”, said Rohit.

The sources in MI camp tells InsideSport that some of the team members including Rohit are unhappy with some of the decisions made at the IPL Mega Auction.

The management’s decision to spend big on Jofra Archer instead of acquiring tried and tested Trent Boult hasn’t gone down well with senior members of the team.

Leave the team, Star Sports comentators as well were heard during the match vs RCB debating the MI’s strategy of buying Archer at the auction.

“I could not understand the decision. Why Mumbai bought Archer at the auction. Why they could not invest same monies for a fit player or retained Trent Boult. It is proving costly for them. Sheer stubborness they showed at the auction. They don’t have a right composition”, said the commentator during the LIVE Commentary.

IPL 2022: Is captain Rohit Sharma upset with team selections? Spending big on UNAVAILABLE Jofra Archer biting ‘STUBBORN’ Mumbai Indians hard: Check OUT

Captain Rohit Sharma Upset?  MI knew Archer won’t be available for IPL 2022 due to recurring elbow issues.

They still took the punt and kept their long-term goal in mind. This 8 crores spending could have been used to buy two-three other players.

Apart from Archer, Mumbai also made other baffling buys. Both Tim David and Daniel Sams were bought for crores at the AUCTION. And with in 2-3 games, the MI management lost faith on them.

Such is the situation that Mumbai Indians decided to play with only 2 foreign players against RCB on Saturday.

When Zaheer Khan was asked about why MI went with two overseas players when they had seven overseas players fit and available, he said

We felt this combination gave us the balance we wanted. Someone like Jaydev Unadkat needed a go – he was bowling well in the nets. The conditions also suited his style – the wicket was a bit two-paced and it had something for bowlers who hit the seam”

Here at InsideSport, we take a look at 3 reasons why MI is lying number 9 on points table

IPL 2022: Is captain Rohit Sharma upset with team selections? Spending big on UNAVAILABLE Jofra Archer biting ‘STUBBORN’ Mumbai Indians hard: Check OUT
  1. Spending big on unavailable Jofra Archer

Undoubtedly the biggest reason for MI’s horrible run so far in IPL 2022. Spending a huge amount of 8 crores on the England pacer has limited them to only 7 foreign players. With the right-ram pacer only available from IPL 2023, MI were forced to play only two foreign players in their game against RCB.

MI’s other foreign players have not performed well and hence they took this drastic step. Instead of spending on unavailable Archer, MI could have used that money smartly.

  1. Spending big on Daniel Sams and Tim David

MI also splurged huge amounts of Daniel Sams and Tim David. They spend INR 2.60 and 8.25 crores respectively to buy the Australian all-rounders. The move so far has backfired as Sams and David have been absolute duds so far. While the former bowled IPL’s second most expensive over against KKR, the latter has failed to finish games for MI in three games.

Both players were dropped against RCB and it remains to be seen if MI play them in the remaining matches.

  1. Senior players of MI Rohit Sharma Jasprit Bumrah and Keiron Pollard have not delivered

MI’s senior players skipper Rohit Sharma, pacer Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Keiron Pollard have so far not fired in unison. Sharma and Bumrah have only looked good in one game in the 4 matches played so far. Meanwhile, Pollard has not finished matches well for MI as he would have liked. In the bowling also, the all-rounder has not had an impact.

Bumrah has picked only three wickets in four games, while Sharma is yet to post a fifty-plus score.
