1. Rinku Singh – KKR
KKR batter Rinku Singh comes from a modest background. He has done a lot of odd jobs for his family whilst playing cricket. The 24-year-old has worked as a sweeper and has also driven an auto to help his brother a few years ago. Rinku faced a lot of hardships and lived with his family in a two-room quarter with nine members. Everything changed for the KKR batter when he scored a phenomenal 42 to guide his team to victory.
He has won a lot of praises from Brendon McCullum, Simon Doull, and Pommie Mbangwa. Rinku is also the first cricketer from Aligarh to play IPL. “A lot of players have played Ranji from Aligarh, but I am the first to play in the IPL. This is a big-league and there is a lot of pressure obviously. I have been waiting for the last five years to get a chance,” Rinku said after winning the Man of the Match award on Monday.
2. Salman Khan –CSK
CSK net bowler Salman Khan’s story is incredible and full of grit and determination. Before the IPL 2022, he was living in a tent with his father. A phone call though changed things for him. CSK called him to be a net bowler and Salman could not deny this tempting offer. He soon shared the dressing with MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, and Moeen Ali and has bowled to these players in the nets.
“One day, I got a call from a Chennai Super Kings official asking me whether I can join as a net bowler for this season. Later, I got to know my name was recommended by (Mumbai player) Tushar Deshpande,” said Salman Khan as quoted by Indian Express.

- Kuldeep Sen
Undoubtedly, RR pacer Kuldeep Sen has been a revelation with the ball in hand. The right-arm pacer is consistently clocking 145kmph and hitting hard lengths. Kuldeep has also seen a lot of poverty and faced struggles in his younger days. His father worked in a small salon and was trying to meet ends.
He was also against Kuldeep playing cricket as he feared he would have no career out of it. Ahead of the mega auctions, the pacer was signed by RR for 20 lakhs and since then he has not looked back. The right-arm pacer has taken 8 wickets in just 5 games and has been impressive.
- Kumar Kartikeya – MI
MI’s latest acquisition off-spinner Kumar Kartikeya Singh immediately made an impact. Playing his first game against RR, Kartikeya picked up one wicket and gave only 19 runs. The youngster came in as a replacement player to Mohd Arshad Khan and grabbed his opportunity with both hands. Kartikeya comes from a modest family as his dad Shyamnath Singh works as a constable in a police station in Utter Pradesh.
With Kumar getting a lucrative IPL contract in IPL, his father’s struggles, and his perseverance has all paid off.
5. Mohsin Khan
LSG bowler Mohsin Khan shot into the limelight with a match-winning four wickets against DC. After three years with MI, Mohsin finally got a chance to make his IPL debut for LSG. The tall bowler has not disappointed as he has been phenomenal with seam and pace. Mohsin also had to face a lot of hardships as his family was not well off.
The LSG pacer’s father is a sub-inspector in Utter Pradesh. He barely could also afford to buy cricketing equipment. With Mohsin now part of IPL he can now take care of himself and his family.
