Eyebrows were raised when Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to retain young Umran Malik for Ra 4 crore on the back of just 3 IPL games. However, the Sunrisers were rewarded for their gamble as Malik repaid the faith and grew leaps and bounds over the season under the guidance of the legendary Dale Steyn.
Umran finished the season with 22 wickets to his name in 14 games, being one of the only four bowlers to take a five wicket haul this season. His tally was the second most by a pacer this year, behind only Punjab Kings’ Kagiso Rabada.

Umran bowled at shear pace throughout the season, troubling batsmen with his quickness. The 22-year-old consistently hit the 150+ kmph mark, bowling one of the fastest deliveries in the IPL ever, clocking an astonishing 157 kmph. The Kashmiri quick is the fastest Indian bowler in the history of the IPL and his form saw him fast tracked into the Indian team for the South Africa series.
At 22, Umran is here for the long haul and the IPL 2022 season could be the start of greater heights for Malik. Experts have called for the Sunrisers star to be named in the T20 World Cup squad, and Malik would be keen to showcase his pace and skill on the international stage.
