IPL 2022: Brendan McCullum – Pat Cummins: KKR head coach Brendan McCullum has hinted that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) might once again target Ashes highest-wicket taker and Australia Test captain Pat Cummins. “I think Pat Cummins was a pretty good buy. While some would say he did not perform as he should have, I disagree. He was brilliant across disciplines without statistically being a really high achiever. You are prepared to go hard for guys like him,” said the former New Zealand captain.

  • Australia captain Pat Cummins was phenomenal in the Ashes. He was the highest wicket-taker (21), including a fifer in a couple of Tests.
  • His captaincy tag is likely to reward him big at IPL 2022 mega auctions. He has enlisted himself for a base price of Rs 2 crore.
  • The formidable pacer comes with an experience of 37 IPL matches and 38 wickets. He was last picked for Rs 15.5 crore by KKR.
  • He can play the role of vice-captain with Shubman Gill released and his retention.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): The 2-time champions are most likely to give the captaincy opportunity to West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell who was their first choice in retention. The hard-hitting batsman has shown loyalty to the franchise and spent 8 seasons with them so far. KKR released their captain Eoin Morgan and vice-captain Dinesh Karthik ahead of the mega auction.
