IPL 2022 Auction: Stars to watch out ahead of mega auction: With the IPL 2022 mega auctions just a couple of weeks away, IPL scouts and all the franchises will be keeping a close eye on a couple of big names who are featuring in some of the ongoing series/tournaments. Many star players are playing in the ongoing BBL edition, Ashes 2021, IND vs SA Test series, NZ vs BAN Test series – who will be on the radar of IPL scouts ahead of the mega auctions.

Here, we will look at one star each from the ongoing series/tournaments who will be on watch especially for their form & performances.

IND vs SA Test – Virat Kohli as a player –

While India Test skipper Virat Kohli has nothing to do with the upcoming auction, his form would be a big concern for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Kohli’s declining form is one of the hot topics in the cricketing world and it has started taking a toll on his batting averages. Kohli hasn’t been at his best for quite some time now and that has seen a dip in his averages across all formats.

A new year brings new hopes & RCB will be hoping Virat Kohli gets back in rhythm ahead of the next edition.

NZ vs BAN Test – Devon Conway –

The first centurion of 2022, Devon Conway will be on many IPL scouts’ radars. The Kiwi opener has already built a name in the red-ball format and was a key campaigner for New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2021 before picking up an injury.

The Kiwi top-order batter averages 50.16 in his T20I career, scoring 602 runs in 17 innings with 4 fifties. His strike rate and power-hitting abilities make him a perfect pick for the cash-rich tournament.

Big Bash League – Mitchell Marsh –

Playing for Perth Scorchers, Mitch Marsh has been doing wonders in the ongoing BBL edition. Marsh averages 85.00 in the ongoing season, scoring 255 runs in 5 innings including a hundred and a fifty. He is been handy with the ball too & has chipped in with 4 wickets in 4 innings.

Prior to the BBL, Marsh also shone brightly in Australia’s T20 WC-winning campaign. He finished as the second leading run-scorer for the Kangaroos and scored two fifties in 6 innings.

The Aussie all-rounder hasn’t featured in the IPL for the last two editions. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Marsh was not able to play the entire 2020 edition due to an ankle injury and later pulled out of IPL 2021 edition too.

The Ashes – Ben Stokes –

England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes’ return to international cricket hasn’t been promising so far. The left-handed batter has scored just 101 runs in 6 innings and averages 16.83 with the bat. He hasn’t been at his best with the ball too – picking up 4 wickets in 4 innings.

Ben Stokes played 8 matches in IPL 2020 edition, scoring 285 and bagging a mere 2 wickets. In the 2021 edition, he only played one game before sustaining a finger injury.

Stokes was eventually released by Rajasthan Royals and is likely to attract a hefty cheque if gets back in rhythm ahead of the mega auction.

Super Smash 2021-22 – Lockie Ferguson

The former Kolkata Knight Riders pacer, Lockie Ferguson will be on the target list of many franchises. His sheer pace and accuracy make him a perfect wicket-taking & match-winning bowler. Playing for Auckland Aces, the New Zealand pacer has bagged 8 wickets in 5 innings and is the leading wicket-taker for Aces in the ongoing Super Smash edition.
