The likes of KL Rahul (LSG), Axar Patel (DC), Kane Williamson, Washington Sundar (SRH) and R Ashwin (RR) come as big headaches for these IPL franchises. All these players are key in playing XI with KL Rahul & Kane Williamson with the leadership roles.

KL Rahul

LSG captain KL Rahul’s fitness is a big headache for the franchise ahead of the debut season. He missed the final ODI, T20Is against West Indies. He is also set to miss the upcoming Sri Lanka series after entering rehabilitation. The Lucknow team management will be hoping for his quick recovery heading into the new season.

“There is an issue with KL Rahul’s fitness and Lucknow must be sweating,” Aakash Chopra said.  

Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar who returned to Indian Cricket after a long gap of IPL 2022 phase 2 & T20WC has once again failed injured himself. Sundar is yet to recover for the Sri Lanka series after missing the T20Is against West Indies.

“For Washington Sundar, it’s been so long and an off-spinner getting injured so often?He had Covid then got injured, then again injured – we haven’t seen him play in the last eight months. He got injured before the T20 World Cup and since we have hardly seen him play – just a couple of matches here and there. Now he’s disappeared from the scene again and has picked up a long-term injury,” Chopra said on YouTube.

Axar Patel

Axar Patel is currently undergoing his rehab and is not available for selection in T20Is and first Test. He has already missed the entire white-ball series against West Indies after failing to make cuts for the South Africa tour. Delhi Capitals would be hoping for his comeback after spending Rs 9 crore in retentions.

R Ashwin

Rajasthan Royals’ new recruit R Ashwin is yet to recover from his injury after missing the white-ball series against West Indies. He is yet to be named in the March Tests against Sri Lanka subject to fitness standards. He comes with a wealth of experience in IPL and could play a key role right from Game 1.

Kane Williamson

New Zealand & SRH captain Kane Williamson was ruled out of South Africa due to an injury. He is recovering from an elbow injury that had ruled him out for the home Test series against Bangladesh. The team management are desperate for his services and hopes him to be fit against the Netherlands in white-ball matches in March. He had missed a brief span for Orange Army last year. Sunrisers are hopeful of a turnaround in IPL 2022.
