IPL 2022: It has been 17 years since Mahendra Singh Dhoni donned India’s ODI jersey for the first time. Since then, the Ranchi-born cricketer achieved enormous heights in his cricketing career. From leading India to their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2007 to winning the 4th IPL trophy in 2021, the 40-year-old cricketer has a lot to show under his achievements. It was not the best of starts for MS Dhoni as he was dismissed for a duck in his debut match against Bangladesh. It took him 4 innings to get started at the big stage when he scored 148 against Pakistan. Since that innings, he never looked back. In a career that lasted for 16 years, the wicketkeeper-batsman scored over 10000 ODI runs and effected over 400 dismissals behind the stumps.

Apart from ODIs, MS Dhoni also left a mark on the two of the other formats of the game. He is still playing in the IPL and still remains one of the most successful captains of the Indian T20 League.

InsideSport looks at 17 Achievements of MS Dhoni in his cricketing career across all the formats.

1. Highest Score by a Wicketkeeper in ODIs

MS Dhoni still holds the record for the highest score by a wicketkeeper-batsman in One Day Internationals. Dhoni scored an entertaining 183* against Sri Lanka in the third ODI of a seven-match series. The flamboyant innings was laden with boundaries (15x4s, 10x6s) and announced MS Dhoni at the big stage.

2. Fastest batsman to reach No. 1 Ranking

After scoring a mammoth 183* against Sri Lanka, it was only a way upwards for MS Dhoni in ODI cricket. He kept on piling runs in the 50-over format which ultimately led him to the top of the ICC Rankings in 2010. It took him only 38 innings (42 Matches) to reach the No. 1 spot and no player has been able to breach that record yet.

3. 2007 T20 World Cup

This remains one of the top highlights of MS Dhoni’s cricketing career. After his blistering performances in the white-ball format, Dhoni was handed the responsibility to lead a relatively inexperienced side in a completely new format. However, Dhoni the captain made the most of the opportunity he had at his fore and led the team to their maiden T20 World Cup.

4. 2011 ODI World Cup

MS Dhoni rose to the occasion in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka and finished the game for India with a six, which remains as one of the memorable moments of his career. His six-off Kulasekara sealed the World Cup for India after 28 years.

5. 2013 Champions Trophy

After conquering the two ICC tournaments, the 2013 Champions Trophy was the final frontier of MS Dhoni the captain. He did not disappoint the Indian fans and led his team to victory against England on their own turf.
