After Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to their 4th IPL title last week, Gambhir said, it is Rohit Sharma, who is the best captain of IPL and not Captain Cool. Furthermore, according to the cricketer-turned-politician, CSK should not retain Dhoni for IPL 2022.
Gambhir, while answering a question on ESPNCricinfo show Han ya Na, said that he does not consider Dhoni as the best IPL captain and cited the number of trophies Dhoni has won as the reason. “No, it is Rohit Sharma. If you talk about titles, one has won 4 and the other five,” Gautam Gambhir said straightaway.

- However, Dhoni has also lost five IPL finals, most by any team in the tournament.

IPL 2021: He further went on to talk about CSK’s IPL 2021 campaign and also predicted the name of three players Chennai Super Kings should retain ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Gambhir claimed that the opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis, who accumulated 756 runs together at the top of the order, was the key reason behind Chennai’s success.
“To a certain extent but not 100 percent because Robin Uthappa, Moeen Ali, and the way the bowlers performed. But yes, they have been a major factor considering the kind of form they have shown,” Gautam Gambhir pointed out.
