Harmanpreet Kaur stressed that lack of Women’s IPL is the only reason why her teammates who she feels are otherwise talented, buckle under pressure in close matches in T20Is.
India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur pointed at Tahlia McGrath’s player of the match performance who slammed an unbeaten 42 off just 33 deliveries to guide her side home in a high-pressure game on Saturday. It’s the impact of WBBL that improves a players’ confidence as well as performance.
“The reason the Australians are doing well is because they get to play good cricket all season. We can see the confidence WBBL is giving them. We need that level (WIPL) before international cricket. If we get a good 20-30 matches to show our skills and get the experience before international games, you don’t feel lost playing at the top level, “ said Harmanpreet.
“We do have a few players who have not played as much cricket at a top-level and don’t have that experience. Like Renuka Thakur, she has done very well at the domestic level but still, she doesn’t have that much experience. Yet she did well in the first two overs. But if there is a Women’s IPL, it will be a great opportunity for domestic players who come to the international level. The same thing happened with the men when they got a platform like IPL.”
“Now when they play international cricket, it doesn’t look like some young talent is playing, they show maturity because they have the tag of having played 40-50 IPL games where they have played good cricket and won matches for their team,” Harmanpreet further added.
Women’s IPL: In 2021, the Women’s T20 Challenge (Women’s IPL) had to be deflected in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the Women’s T20 Challenge was organised in Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates from 4 to 9 November 2020, coinciding with the IPL Playoffs. It was a three-team tournament consisting of a group stage of three matches, followed by a final.
WBBL 2021: The seventh edition of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2021 will kick off on October 14 and as many as eight Indian players are set to take part in the tournament. Poonam Yadav, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh, Shafali Verma, Radha Yadav, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Harmanpreet Kaur will take part in WBBL 2021.

- Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav will be making their debut in WBBL 2021 with Sydney Sixers
- Poonam Yadav and Richa Ghosh will feature for Hobart Hurricanes in the upcoming season
- The WBBL will act as a perfect platform for the players for the 2022 ODI World Cup in March-April next year.
Meanwhile, the third and final T20I between India Women and Australia Women will be played tomorrow at the same venue – Carrara Oval, Queensland.
