It was an emotional time for the player, who always dreamed of wearing the India cap. The pacer also thanked his captain Hardik Pandya for showing his trust in him, especially in the second T20I.

“It was a dream for me to play for India and Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar ) bhai gave me the cap. I had tears in my eyes. It is a dream for all of us to play for India,” said Malik in a BCCI video.

His debut, however, did not go according to plan. He just bowled one over, conceding 14 runs. Malik made up for it with an impressive performance in the second T20I. He showed nerves of steel in crunch situations as Malik delivered big in the second T20I when the captain needed him the most. He managed to defend 17 runs in the final over to steer India to victory.
Malik further went on to explain how Pandya gave him the confidence to deliver in the final over, which eased his nerves. “I felt really good when we were able to defend 17 runs in the final over which I bowled. Initially, I put in the wide areas and Hardik bhai asked me to bowl normal length, it was a no ball.”
“When Ireland needed eight from three balls, Hardik bhai told me if I deliver two dot balls, we will win and that is exactly what happened. He showed trust in me and I won over his trust also with my bowling,” he said.
Malik has been climbing the pace ladder like the way he bowls – fast. In fact it is his pace and skills in the Indian Premier League 2022, which helped him earn a place in the Indian squad.
