T20 World Cup: Virat Kohli declares, KL Rahul to open with Rohit Sharma & I will bat at No 3′

Reacting to the development, a chirpy Pant couldn’t hold his words. He said, “Ise turns samajh nahi aata.” (He doesn’t understand the movements)

He further added, “Yahi mauka hai dastur hai (This is the time).” He was referring to the opportunity offered to Chahar to prove himself ahead of the group stage matches.”

India skipper Virat Kohli had earlier declared that R Chahar was chosen ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal in T20 World Cup.

“It was a challenging call [to leave Chahal] but we decided to back Rahul Chahar for a reason. He has bowled amazingly well over the last couple of years in the IPL. A guy who bowls with pace, he did really well in Sri Lanka and against England at home as well, he was someone who bowled those difficult overs,” he said.

“We believe going on in this tournament, the wickets are going to get slower and slower, so guys who bowl with pace will be able to trouble the batters as compared to those who give it air. Rahul definitely has those strengths naturally as a leg-spinner. He is someone who always attacks the wickets, that is the factor that tilted the thing in favour of him. Picking a World Cup is always tricky and you cannot always have everyone in that squad,” he added.

However, Chahar finished his 4 overs with 43 runs and lone wicket on Monday.

He had earlier managed to pick only a couple of wickets in 4 matches for Mumbai Indians in the UAE leg of IPL 2021.
