It’ll be India vs. Australia on March 9. The two international juggernauts will be the two teams who’ll face off in the ICC Champions Trophy Final. That’s what Ricky Ponting, a 2-time ODI World Cup winner and 2-time Champions Trophy winner, thinks.
“It’s hard to go past India and Australia again,” said on The ICC Review.
Another India vs Australia Final in ICC events
Led by Rohit Sharma and Pat Cummins, India and Australia have met each other in two of the last three ICC finals. One of which has been in the same format (ODI World Cup 2023) as the ICC Champions Trophy. Without a doubt, across formats, they are the best teams in the world at the moment. That’s exactly why Ponting thinks that another India vs. Australia Final awaits us.
“Just think about the quality of players in both countries right now, and you look back in recent history when these big finals and big ICC events have come around, and inevitably Australia and India are there somewhere,” he added.

Ponting picks Pakistan as semifinalists for ICC Champions Trophy
Ponting also picks the Pakistan cricket team as one of the four teams that will reach the semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy. As the hosts of the tournament, the Men in Green will have a home advantage, but their unpredictability is why Ponting picks them to make the final four.
“The other team that is playing some really good cricket at the moment is Pakistan. Their one-day cricket over the last little bit has been absolutely outstanding. We know they’re not always the most predictable team in those big tournaments, but they seem like they’ve sorted things out a little bit,” the former Australian skipper added.
