India vs Zimbabwe – Virat Kohli rested as vacation continues, India Squad Zimbawe TOUR: The All India Selection committee named India’s squad for the IND vs ZIM ODI series on Saturday. The 33-year-old was rested from the West Indies tour and has been on a vacation since. Follow India Tour of Zimbabwe LIVE Updates on Insidesport.IN

The former Indian captain was expected to play against minnows Zimbabwe with an eye to getting some runs under his belt. He is now likely return for the Asia Cup later next month.

It is learnt that few of the selectors were interested in playing him in the Zimbabwe series but he made himself unavailable. Kohli for now will continue his vacation.

Virat Kohli again rested: Virat Kohli was once again absent from India’s squad as the selection committee named a second-string unit for the tour of Zimbabwe. Kohli who is currently on a vacation in Europe was left out as he continues his break from playing following a torrid run of form. The 33-year-old had a forgettable series against England failing to score more than 20 in either of the formats, putting his place in the side under series doubt.

Having rested for the series against the West Indies, the Zimbabwe series could have been the perfect opportunity for the Indian talisman to get some runs under the belt. While a break will certainly be refreshing for the former Indian skipper, his form has been questionable adding to India’s woes before the T20 World Cup and Asia Cup 2022.

Although Kohli has failed to perform in both matches against England, his game suits the ODI format best and could reignite his form. Zimbabwe could have just be his best resort. Zimbabwe’s bowling attack isn’t world-class and the knock Kohli is searching for could be coming. Even an out-of-form Sourav Ganguly toured Zimbabwe and got a century but the 33-year-old old continued to spend time with his young family around Europe.

Kohli spent some time in London after the England series before making a short trip to Paris. The former India captain will travel to the United Arab Emirates to take part in the upcoming Asia Cup.

India squad vs Zimbabwe: Shikhar Dhawan (Capt), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.
