India Tour of South-Africa – Virat Kohli Pulls out of ODI Series: As reported earlier by InsideSport, Virat Kohli has decided to pull out of the ODI series in South Africa. Kohli has informed BCCI that he will not be available for the 3 match ODI series. According to a report, Kohli has told BCCI that the tour coincides with his daughter’s 1st birthday so he won’t be available for the series: Follow India vs South Africa SERIES LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN

It is important to note that Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s daughter Vamika will turn one on January 11, 2022. Sources in the know of developments confirmed to ANI that Kohli has indeed asked the board for a small break in January next year.

“Yes, Kohli has asked for a small break in January to spend some time with his family. It effectively means that he would miss the ODI series against South Africa,” the source said.

It is worth noting that on Monday, Rohit Sharma had to be withdrawan from the test series. According to the BCCI’s release ‘Rohit sustained a left hamstring injury & will not be available for the 3 match test series’

It is still unclear that Virat & Rohit being unavailable for the respective formats is anything to do with the ongoing controversy related to the white-ball captaincy changing hands.

But the speculations are rife that Kohli wasn’t too amused being removed from the ODI captaincy.

Is Virat Kohli Upset? Kohli was sacked as ODI captain last week in favor of Rohit Sharma. InsideSport was the 1st news-platform to report that he likely to skip the ODI series.

Since Rohit Sharma was named as India’s white-ball captain, Kohli has neither reacted – nor released any statement on the issue.

The Indian test captain as ususal is active on Social-Media but he hasn’t written anything about the issue.

Sources close to Kohli had earlier told InsideSport that ‘he was taken aback with the development’.

Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma was also asked about his reaction on the issue.

“I haven’t talked to him (Virat Kohli) yet. His phone is switched off for some reason. But as far as my opinion is concerned, he had specifically stepped down from T20 captaincy and the selectors should’ve straightaway asked him to step down from both the white-ball formats or not step down at all,” Rajkumar Sharma said on Khelneeti podcast.

India Tour of South Africa: Virat Kohli not available for ODI Series, Rohit Sharma injured for Test Series

Rohit Sharma ‘Injured’ for Test Series: The development on Kohli comes day after Rohit Sharma was ruled out from the test series.

According to the press release by the BCCI, Rohit has suffered a hamstring injury which will rule him out of all the 3 test matches.

“Test vice-captain Rohit Sharma sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai. He has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa. Priyank Panchal will replace him in the Test squad”, declared the BCCI release.

Will Rohit Sharma be available to lead India in ODI’s?

Nothing is clear on the status and seriousness of his injury. Sources in BCCI surprsingly informed InsideSport that he is likely to be available for the ODI Series.

“His injury should heal in 3 weeks time. He should be available to lead India in the ODI’s”, informed the BCCI official.

Are the development coincidental or there is something more to it?

The developments are bound to lead to rumours about personal relationships between two of the biggest cricketers on the global stage.

No one else but BCCI is to be blamed for the situation for the way they have handled the captaincy issue.

White-Ball Captaincy Drama: Close to three months after Kohli stepped down from the T20I captaincy, the BCCI announced through a very curt press statement that Sharma would be replacing him as the white-ball skipper.

The next day, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly sent out a statement saying he had “personally spoken with Kohli” and so had the selectors.

Ganguly disclosed that the board had asked the 33-year-old not to resign from the T20 captaincy.
