India tour of England: VVS Laxman’s big warning to Virat Kohli & Co: India’s batting great VVS Laxman wants Virat Kohli led Indian Team to be wary as they take on England in the 5-match Test series starting from August 4. That India’s last three tours in 2011, 2014 and 2018 ended in heavy defeats would be a perfect example of why a flamboyant Team India need to be cautious about Joe Root & Co.

India’s lack of match practice before the WTC Final has already ended up in heavy defeat to New Zealand. But as Virat Kohli & Co have already acclimatised to the English conditions having played intra-squad matches and a warm-up match besides spending a month in the UK will boost the chances.

But VVS Laxman has warned that Team India do not have a great record in England and when they begin the WTC Cycle, it would important to ace the England test. ]

Top sides pride themselves on exponentially becoming better versions of themselves. One of the big challenges in Test cricket is conquering foreign lands. Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri will be mindful that India haven’t won a series in England since 2007, and that their last three outings have ended in heavy defeats. The endeavour this time will be to arrest that trend, which is not an unrealistic expectation given the quality of resources at their disposal,” VVS Laxman wrote in his column for TOI.

India tour of England: India’s Test performances in England in last decade

  • India tour of England (2018): 4-1 (India lost)
  • India tour of England (2014): 3-1 (India lost), 1 draw
  • India tour of England (2011): 4-0 (India lost)

Conclusively, in the last decade, India have failed to win a Test series against the Three Lions in their home conditions. India’s last Test series win in England came in 2007 where India registered a 1-0 win while 2 matches concluded in draws.

While giving due importance to South Africa who India will tour later this year, the Indian veteran feels that victory against England in whites is not just crucial to gain confidence but also to take off well in the second edition of WTC.

He further opined, “This series will be India’s greatest examination during the new WTC cycle. With all due respect, South Africa aren’t quite the same side as they were and India have done well in that country over the years, so they will fancy their chances of a maiden series win there later in the year. A good display in England will do wonders for India’s confidence as well as their standing in Test cricket.
