The scheduled white-ball series between India and Bangladesh in August has been cast into uncertainty, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) revealing that the BCCI is still awaiting government clearance to confirm the tour.
India were due to arrive in Dhaka in August for a six-match limited-overs series, including three ODIs and three T20Is, as part of the ICC Future Tours Programme. The series was set to begin on August 17 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. However, ever since the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan and also the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government in August last year, the fate of the IND vs BAN series looked bleak.
“Trying to find another window”
Following a marathon board meeting on Monday, BCB President Aminul Islam confirmed that discussions with the BCCI are still active. “We’re having positive discussions with the BCCI. It’s not like (hosting India) in August or September; we are having discussions about how we can do the series, and if we cannot host it now, we will do it at another possible time,” he said. Aminul added that while India haven’t formally requested a postponement, the tour hinges on a green light from the government.”
It is fascinating for Bangladesh to say that they are planning for a new window in case the August window doesn’t help BCCI pull off the scheduled series. This is because the Men in Blue have a jam-packed calendar till January 2026. Right after that, the T20 World Cup 2026 and IPL 2026 follow. Hence, if the India’s tour of Bangladesh doesn’t happen next month, BCB might have to wait till IPL 2026 to get over.
India have not won an ODI series in Bangladesh since 2014. With both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli set to return to the ODI setup after retiring from Tests, the tour offers a strong chance to break the jinx. The three-match ODI leg begins on August 17 in Mirpur and ends on August 23 in Chattogram.
The T20I series, scheduled from August 26 to 31, marks India’s first-ever bilateral T20I series on Bangladeshi soil. India, the reigning T20 World Cup champions, last faced Bangladesh in a T20I series in 2022, sweeping them 3–0 at home.
Suryakumar Yadav might miss BAN vs IND
India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is racing against time to be fit after undergoing sports hernia surgery in Germany. If unavailable, Axar Patel could lead the T20I squad. With the Test side returning from England just 13 days before the ODI opener, players like Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant are expected to be rested, giving Gautam Gambhir the opportunity to test new combinations ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
In the same meeting, the BCB announced Simon Taufel’s appointment for umpire education and revealed plans to expand both men’s and women’s selection panels.
