The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the India cricket team squads for the one-off Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. In a major surprise coming fan’s way, as many as three new players were picked for the Tests — Gurnoor Brar, Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey, while Ravindra Jadeja was rested.
No Bumrah, Jadeja for Afghanistan series
Contrary to what the reports had predicted, Jasprit Bumrah was left out of both the teams, who is currently playing in the IPL, and his workload needs to be managed well. Meanwhile, in the ODIs, much to the relief of fans, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retained their spots. Hardik Pandya, though in the loop, will be subject to fitness clearance.
The biggest addition was that of Prince Yadav, the LSG pacer who has been so impressive this year. Along with him, Brar made the cut too, along with Dubey.
The one-off Test is set to take place between June 6-10, just shortly after the conclusion of the IPL 2026, while the three-match ODI series will follow and take place between June 14-20. While the Test is not a part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC 2025/27) cycle, the 50-over format series will mark the start of India’s preparations for the ODI World Cup in 2027.
